We have a simple philosophy at APCS: we value our caregivers and don’t believe caregivers should have to spend their own money to become caregivers.
Some agencies and other groups make commitments to caregivers they can’t keep or make promises on benefits they have no control over. Sometimes, they make phone calls, send emails, and even knock on your door, making promises about what they can do.
You should ask yourself, “Are they going to be there for me tomorrow if I have a problem.”
APCS is family-owned and operated; for over 20 years, we’ve been there with you through good times and bad. When you have a problem, it’s our problem; we don’t need to ask corporate headquarters, who probably aren’t even located in this state, how to solve the problem. We help solve the problem.
Some agencies misclassify their caregivers and call them independent contractors. When a caregiver is an independent contractor, the caregiver is responsible for payroll taxes, isn’t covered by workers compensation or unemployment insurance, isn’t provided paid time off, isn’t paid for travel time between clients, isn’t offered medical insurance (if they qualify), and doesn’t receive retirement benefits (this is just a partial list of benefits withheld from caregivers).
At APCS, we consider this practice to be not only illegal but also unethical.
When considering which agency you choose to work with, please refer to the list of potential benefits APCS offers and ask your agency if they provide them:
